What can I use these mentorship sessions for?
You can focus on any goal involving music technology and digital creation. Common uses include learning a specific software (like Max or Ableton Live), troubleshooting a creative project, developing interactive systems, refining sound design, or getting expert feedback on your work.
Who are these lessons for?
They are for anyone working with sound and technology—including composers, musicians, sound artists and multimedia creators—seeking personalized guidance to advance their skills and projects.
How does scheduling work?
Sessions are completely flexible. After you are admitted to the program, you book individual lessons directly based on your schedule and the tutor’s availability.
What software can I get help with?
Our faculty can provide mentorship in a wide range of tools, including Max/MSP, Pure Data, Ableton Live, Reaper, and Spear, among others. You can specify your software focus in your application.
Is there a deadline to apply?
No. We accept applications on a rolling basis throughout the year, and you will receive an admission decision within 14 days.
What are the technical requirements?
You will need a computer with a stable internet connection, a webcam, microphone, headphones or speakers, and the relevant software for your chosen focus already installed.
How are tutors assigned?
In your application, you will list your preferred instructors and areas of focus. The ILINM team will match you with a suitable faculty member based on your goals and their expertise.
Is there a minimum number of lessons I need to book?
The program is designed to be flexible. You can start with a single session to address an immediate need or book multiple lessons for ongoing development.
Can I have lessons with more than one faculty member?
Absolutely. A key benefit of this program is the opportunity to receive guidance from multiple perspectives. You are welcome to book sessions with one or several different ILINM faculty members.
What do I need to prepare for my first session?
We recommend having a clear goal for what you want to achieve. Please send any relevant materials (e.g., score sketches, recordings, a project description, specific questions) to your faculty member at least 24 hours in advance to ensure a productive session.
What platform is used for the online lessons?
Our primary platform for live video lessons is Zoom. It allows for high-quality audio/video sharing, which is essential for discussing scores and audio playback. A dedicated Zoom link will be sent to you for each of your scheduled sessions.
What if I have technical issues during a session?
We strongly recommend testing your technology (internet, audio, video) before your session begins. In the rare event of a technical problem, our session coordinator will attempt to assist. However, as session time is limited and reserved for you, please ensure a stable connection. Persistent technical issues may result in the session being forfeited or needing to be rescheduled at the faculty member’s discretion.
What is your rescheduling and cancellation policy?
You may reschedule a session without penalty by providing at least one week’s (7 days) notice. Please contact our admissions coordinator directly to arrange a new time.
Please note that sessions canceled with less than 48 hours’ notice, or missed entirely, will be forfeited. All payments are non-refundable.
How do I pay for the lessons?
Payment is required in advance to secure your session(s). You can pay via credit/debit card through our secure online payment system or via bank transfer.
Are there any scholarships or funding available?
The Flexible Mentorship program is self-funded and requires payment per session; scholarships are not available for this specific program. However, we encourage you to visit the main ILINM Scholarships & Financial Aid page, as funding opportunities for students and artists are periodically offered through other institutional programs and partnerships.
Is there an application deadline?
Applications are accepted year-round, and you can apply whenever you are ready to begin your mentorship.
How long does the admission process take?
You will receive an admission decision within 14 days of submitting your complete application.
