How is this mentorship different from a traditional course?
This is not a course with a fixed curriculum. It is a fully flexible, one-on-one consultation model. The content and direction of each session are entirely driven by your personal artistic goals, whether you’re developing a new composition, refining an existing score, building a portfolio, or exploring conceptual ideas.
Who is this program for?
Composers seeking focused, personalized guidance on a specific project or area of study.
How do I schedule my lessons?
After admission, our team will coordinate with you to schedule your sessions based on your and the faculty’s mutual availability. All lessons are conducted via Zoom.
Can I choose my faculty mentor?
Yes. During the application process, you will be asked to list your preferred ILINM faculty members in order of priority. Our team will do its best to assign you based on your preferences and faculty availability.
Can I have lessons with more than one faculty member?
Absolutely. A key benefit of this program is the opportunity to receive guidance from multiple perspectives. You are welcome to book sessions with one or several different ILINM faculty members.
Is there a minimum or maximum number of lessons I can book?
There is no minimum or maximum. You can book a single session to address a specific question or book multiple sessions over time for ongoing development.
What do I need to prepare for my first session?
We recommend having a clear goal for what you want to achieve. Please send any relevant materials (e.g., score sketches, recordings, a project description, specific questions) to your faculty member at least 24 hours in advance to ensure a productive session.
What platform is used for the online lessons?
Our primary platform for live video lessons is Zoom. It allows for high-quality audio/video sharing, which is essential for discussing scores and audio playback. A dedicated Zoom link will be sent to you for each of your scheduled sessions.
What if I have technical issues during a session?
We strongly recommend testing your technology (internet, audio, video) before your session begins. In the rare event of a technical problem, our session coordinator will attempt to assist. However, as session time is limited and reserved for you, please ensure a stable connection. Persistent technical issues may result in the session being forfeited or needing to be rescheduled at the faculty member’s discretion.
What is your rescheduling and cancellation policy?
You may reschedule a session without penalty by providing at least one week’s (7 days) notice. Please contact our admissions coordinator directly to arrange a new time.
Please note that sessions canceled with less than 48 hours’ notice, or missed entirely, will be forfeited. All payments are non-refundable.
How do I pay for the lessons?
Payment is required in advance to secure your session(s). You can pay via credit/debit card through our secure online payment system or via bank transfer.
Are there any scholarships or funding available?
The Flexible Mentorship program itself is self-funded and does not offer scholarships. Payment is required per session. However, we encourage you to visit the main ILINM Scholarships page, as we periodically offer financial aid opportunities for composers through other programs.
Is there an application deadline?
Applications are accepted year-round, and you can apply whenever you are ready to begin your mentorship.
How long does the admission process take?
You will receive an admission decision within 14 days of submitting your complete application.
